Bringing understanding to dysautonomia in Aotearoa

Dysautonomia New Zealand is here to raise awareness, provide education, and build a supportive community for people living with autonomic nervous system disorders across Aotearoa.

Raising awareness and empowering people living with dysautonomia in Aotearoa

Mission Statement

Dysautonomia New Zealand exists to raise awareness, improve understanding, and support people living with autonomic nervous system disorders in Aotearoa. We are committed to providing education, advocating for better healthcare, and fostering a connected community so that every person with dysautonomia can be recognised, supported, and empowered to live well.

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term for conditions where the autonomic nervous system (ANS) does not function as it should. The ANS controls automatic body processes like heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and temperature regulation.

When it malfunctions, everyday activities such as standing up, eating, or even concentrating can become challenging.

What is Dysautonomia?

Education and Resources

We are committed to providing education, and awareness for both the public and healthcare professionals. By sharing accurate information, resources, and lived experiences, we aim to reduce delays in diagnosis, break down stigma, and empower people to better understand and manage dysautonomia. Through training, advocacy, and community engagement, we work to ensure that healthcare providers are better equipped to recognise symptoms, while families, whānau, and the wider community are supported to walk alongside those living with the condition.

We aim to support and encourage New Zealand-based research into dysautonomia. Future projects include:

  • Establishing a NZ Dysautonomia Registry to improve data collection

  • Partnering with universities and clinicians on research initiatives

  • Providing small grants or scholarships for student-led dysautonomia research.
